RULES AND INFORMATION

You must have soccer experience to participate. This League is not for beginners.

The South Brunswick Adult Soccer League provides recreation for adult and young adult soccer players. We welcome players who love the sport and have passion for smart and safe soccer. Our objective is to enjoy soccer with our soccer friends in a pleasant environment. The Summer League organizes a blend of teams with mixed ages and abilities for competitive, yet balanced games.Soccer Quality, Maturity, Elegance, and Team Work is encouraged, while unsafe, dangerous players, and angry, fouling and constantly complaining, or cursing players are not welcomed. Players must be able to control themselves in a respectable way to participate. Players who can not conduct themselves in a good sportsman like manner will be red-carded and ejected from the game or the League if necessary.

ELIGIBILITY: South Brunswick, Cranbury, Monroe Twp., Jamesburg, Plainsboro, North Brunswick, East Brunswick
and nearby community residents 18 years or older with soccer experience.

RESPECT AND SAFE PLAYING WITH OLDER PLAYERS Although there are different Divisions based on ability and age in the League, there may be times when players young and old may play against each other. For example.a physically fit 20 year old player may be racing for a ball with an older and less fit 50 year old from the opposite direction. In this example, both players must think of safety first and avoid a collision. Younger players in their late teens, 20s and 30s joining the League need to understand that playing safe is of primary importance in the league. They must respect the fact, that older players in their 40s, 50s can get easily get hurt by more physical younger players who are not careful while playing soccer. Know who you are playing against and play like a gentleman!(or a lady, since this is co-ed)

CAUTION FOR THE PHYSICALLY INTENSE PLAYERS - PLEASE READ!!:

Physically intense, dangerous and risky players are not welcomed to play with us. Very agressive players are not welcomed to play either, but if they can tone it down a level they may be able to play. If in prior games in other leagues, you received a lot of yellow cards or red cards, you must LOWER your intensity of play FOR OUR LEAGUE, or do not play with us. The NO SLIDING rule is enforced, as no one wants their legs broken or ankles injured.

FOULS AND RETALIATION: Fouls happen. Regardless of the ref’s action PLEASE KEEP COOL AND DO NOT RETALIATE. Angry players who retaliate will be ejected from the game, and most likely from the League.

WARM UP, STRETCH AND BE SMART

The objective is to keep on playing soccer for a long time without taking time out for weeks or months due to an injury, such as a pulled muscle. If you stretch, and everyone around you plays safe, then you can keep on kicking for a long time.

FIELD CONDITIONS AND GAME CANCELLATIONS:
In return for having a good time playing soccer, our job is to PRESERVE THE SOCCER FIELDS. If there is heavy rain, and/or the fields are soaked and not playable (it rained all day and all night, and still is raining) the games will be cancelled. If there is light drizzle, the game is probably on. CALL YOUR MANAGER IF YOU ARE NOT SURE, OR CHECK THE WEBSITE AT www.southbrunswick.net

DO NOT LITTER ON THE FIELDS: After games, please pick-up empty water bottles and trash.

DO NOT TOUCH THAT GOALIE! Please be careful when you are running towards the goalie. AVOID COLLISIONS. SLOW DOWN. This is a friendly League. It is much more important not to injure the goalie, than it is to score a goal.
And for all you Goalies: No sliding rule is in effect for you as well. Also no knees in the air.

THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION IS FOR THE SUMMER LEAGUE

WHO ARE TEAM MANAGERS? Volunteers who are responsible to help draft team; deal with positions, strategies and substitutions on the field; keep team informed (rainouts, schedules, etc.).

BE NICE TO THE REFS, AND BE RESPECTFUL.

Don’t let a bad call frustrate you.  NO one is perfect. Either the ref didn’t see it or he’s having a bad day. Put it behind you, and MOVE ON with the game. If the ref is not doing a good job, discuss it with your manager or the league organizer. If you know any good refs, please let us know. We are always looking for good refs, who enforce safety and fairness.

FIFA RULES, YELLOW CARDS AND RED CARDS:

Games are 90 minutes long and will be played by FIFA rules with some modifications, such as NO SLIDE TACKLING AND NO ROUGH CHARGING. Rough play is strongly discouraged and referees will be authorized to issue yellow/red cards for violations. PLAYERS WHO ARE TOO PHYSICAL AND POSE AN INJURY RISK TO FELLOW PLAYERS WILL BE EJECTED FROM THE GAME AND FROM THE LEAGUE. Red cards get a one game suspension. Yellow cards get a 10 minute off the field cool down time, with a sub allowed to replace the player.

TEAMS:
Teams will consist of 16 to 19 players. During the summer a larger roster is acceptable, because many players take vacations.
Team managers along with the league organizers will select and form teams. Players may be switched or traded to a different team to keep the teams balanced.

GUEST PLAYERS:
If a team is short players for a particular game, the team may be supplemented with a guest player . Both managers must agree to add any registered or non-registered players. Priority will be given to registered Summer League players. The objective is to have both teams balanced.

GUEST PLAYER FEES: Guest Players who are not registered for the summer and would like to participate, may register and purchase a two game Guest Pass for $25. Only teams with 11 players or less, are eligible to add guest players.
Guest players are NOT always guaranteed to play and can play ONLY IF permitted by both managers involved in the game.
